FUNCTIONS

The National Social Work Council performs the following functions: To process denunciations made for breaches of professional ethics, and to sanction them.

  • To process denunciations made for breaches of professional ethics, and to sanction them.
  • To register and issue the document certification to social workers, on request, as regulated by Law 53/1977 and Decree 2833/1981.
  • To resolve suspensions and cancellations of registration, in the terms of Law 53/1977
  • To prepare and approve internal regulations.
  • To denounce proven breaches of the law which regulates the professional practice of social work to the competent authorities, and to request them to impose appropriate sanctions.
  • To disseminate Law 53/1977 and Decree 2833/1981, and subsequent regulatory and theoretical progress made in the profession in Colombia.

MEMBERSHIP

The National Social Work Council is composed of one government representative and three representatives of the professional bodies:

  • The Minister of Social Protection or his delegate (Law 790/2002, Article 5).
  • The President of the National Council for Education in Social Work (CONETS) or his delegate.
  • The President of the National Social Worker´s Federation (FECTS), or his delegate.
  • A delegate of the National Assembly of Social Worker faculties
  • These representations or delegations are permanent, subject only to the permanence of the Minister in his post, or the time of election of representatives of the professional and academic bodies.
